7,000+ Sign Petitions In Support Of Network’s Only Latino Anchor
In response to rumors that MSNBC plans to take José Díaz-Balart off the air, the Latino community has responded with force. Today, America’s Voice Education Fund and the Dream Action Coalition delivered two petitions with over 7,000 combined signatures to MSNBC Studios, calling on the network to keep “The Rundown” with Jose-Diaz Balart in the morning lineup.
As the network’s only Latino anchor, José Díaz-Balart is a valuable voice for the community and has consistently delivered fair and balanced coverage on important issues. Especially during a time when anti-immigrant sentiment is brewing—with Donald Trump’s campaign rhetoric a prime example—Jose Diaz-Blart is willing to challenge politicians and ask the tough questions on immigration.
Said Cesar Vargas, Co-Founder of Dream Action Coalition, “José Díaz-Balart is an important voice for the Latino community across the country and MSNBC should honor this significance by not only keeping him on the show, but by ensuring other voices are brought in to speak to a diverse community.”
Added Juan Escalante, Director of Digital Campaigns for America’s Voice Education Fund, “José Díaz-Balart is one of the most respected journalists in the national media today, and has consistently provided fair and balanced coverage on the issues that matter most to immigrants and Latinos. We need voices like José’s, journalists who report on the contributions our communities make across the country, in order to combat the anti-immigrant rhetoric that continues to be spread each and every day.”
