Douglas Rivlin: “Democrats will be judged by results achieved and promises kept. And today, they took another step forward toward delivering on their commitments to the American people.”
Today, the House of Representatives passed a budget framework that would include new pathways to citizenship for millions. The following is a statement from Douglas Rivlin, Director of Communication for America’s Voice:
Democrats have choices to make and promises to keep on a range of issues, including immigration. Today’s vote moves America one step closer to new pathways to citizenship for millions of Dreamers, TPS holders, farm workers and other essential workers.
For all the recent focus on intra-caucus process concerns, the fact is that Democrats will be judged by results achieved and promises kept. And today, they took another step forward toward delivering on their commitments to the American people. Democrats have the majority and will be held accountable to what they deliver – not what they tried to deliver.
We are optimistic Democrats will continue to use every ounce of their majority to enact citizenship for millions of people who have helped America in our hour of need and who are deeply interwoven into our families and neighborhoods. These citizenship provisions remain extraordinarily popular across the political spectrum. To build our way out of this pandemic – to Build Back Better – we cannot afford to leave anyone behind.
The country is ready. Our economy will benefit. Democrats are primed. And Democrats must deliver.
