Washington, DC – The following are statements from Vanessa Cárdenas, Executive Director of America’s Voice, and Yuna Oh, Political Associate for America’s Voice and a DACA recipient, reacting to yesterday’s DACA ruling by Judge Andrew Hanen (English and Spanish versions are below).
Vanessa Cárdenas, Executive Director of America’s Voice:
“Judge Hanen’s ruling reinforces the inadequacy and injustice of the status quo for Dreamers, which again cries out for a legislative fix. While avoiding the worst case scenario, where DACA was ended immediately for everyone, this is a further wakeup call of the cruel limbo Dreamers and their families have to live through.
The solution to this hasn’t changed – we need legislation that delivers Dreamers the opportunity for citizenship and to fully participate in the country they have long called home. Delivering for them is a rare point of consensus across the American political spectrum and it’s time for Congress to give Dreamers the opportunity they deserve and have earned. In the interim of this long overdue congressional fix, the Biden administration should explore every possible option under existing law to ensure that Dreamers have the opportunity to work, study, succeed, and thrive in the United States.”
According to Yuna Oh, Political Associate for America’s Voice, who is a DACA recipient and has DACA recipients in her own family:
“As a DACA recipient, it is infuriating to always be told I don’t belong, as this ruling does. Every day, we have to wait for Congress to act on a permanent solution so we don’t have to live in fear despite being Americans.
DACA recipients are parents, homeowners, leaders and caregivers. We are part of the American identity, whether the GOP recognizes it or not. While being a DACA recipient opened doors in my life, without a permanent solution the opponents of DACA in the Republican Party continue to gamble with my life and the lives of 600,000 others. I am an American, and this is my home.”

Washington, DC – A continuación compartimos las declaraciones de Vanessa Cárdenas, Directora Ejecutiva de America’s Voice, y de Yuna Oh, Asociada Política de America’s Voice y beneficiaria de DACA, en reacción al fallo del juez Andrew Hanen.
Vanessa Cárdenas, Directora Ejecutiva de America’s Voice:
“El fallo del juez Hanen demuestra otra vez la injusticia de la situación actual de los Dreamers, y nuevamente clama por una solución legislativa. Aunque se ha evitado el peor resultado en esta decisión que sería que el programa de DACA terminara inmediatamente para todos, este momento es otra llamada de atención sobre el cruel limbo en el que los Dreamers y sus familias viven.
La solución a este problema no ha cambiado, necesitamos legislación que provea a los Dreamers la oportunidad de obtener la ciudadanía y participar plenamente en el país que siempre han llamado su hogar. Cumplirles es un raro punto de consenso en todo el espectro político estadounidense y es momento de que el Congreso dé a los Dreamers la oportunidad que merecen y que se han ganado. Aunque ser beneficiaria de DACA ha abierto puertas en mi vida, sin una solución permanente los opositores a DACA en el Partido Republicano siguen jugando con mi vida y las vidas de otros 600,000.
