More than 30 Dreamers and advocates demonstrated outside Rep. Will Hurd (R-TX)’s San Antonio office today, calling for Hurd to support the Dream Act and help protect Dreamers like Felipe.
Felipe Abonza-Lopez is a Texas Dreamer who was pulled over and detained while traveling through Hurd’s district almost a month ago. Felipe had active DACA status at the time, which ICE then revoked. Felipe is out of detention now, but he still faces deportation proceedings, even though he hasn’t done anything wrong. The Dream Act would protect Dreamers like Felipe, but Hurd hasn’t taken a strong stance on the issue or commented on Felipe’s case.
After the action today, a member of Hurd’s staff reportedly said that the Congressman supports Dreamers and the Dream Act but wanted to go about legislation the “right way.”
