Here’s a perfect example of what happens when you used to support citizenship for the nation’s 11 million undocumented immigrants and then hope to God you don’t get asked about it during an interview.
During an interview with Fox’s Greta Van Susteren, Bush let loose a faux pas of epic proportions, accidentally saying he believes in “earned citizenship,” before immediately catching himself and correcting to “earned legal status”:
Oops: In interview w @greta, @JebBush accidentally says “earned citizenship” before catching himself and talking “earned legal status.”

Bush, of course, did support a path to citizenship for the nation’s 11 million undocumented immigrants up until two years ago, but has since disowned the notion and embraced the GOP’s vacuous “secure the border first” excuse as he’s entered the 2016 Presidential Election.
As AV’s Frank Sharry said last week, with Jeb sliding to the right on immigration out of political expediency, “he’s becoming more of an artful dodger than a forthright leader.” And now after his immigration gaffe with Greta, it looks like even the “artful” bit is up in the air.
A short clip of the “citizenship” slip below.
