This is what Resistance looks like.
Nearly 20 rabbis and several Jewish activists were arrested while protesting Donald Trump’s Muslim ban, near the Trump International Hotel and Tower in New York City last night:
About 200 Jewish religious leaders and activists marched through the Upper West Side of Manhattan to Trump International Hotel and Tower on Columbus Circle. More than a dozen of the demonstrators staged a sit-in and blocked traffic. After multiple warnings from the New York Police Department, officers said, 19 protesters were arrested for disorderly conduct.
Demonstrators held signs reading “No fear, refugees are welcome here”, “Jews support our Muslim friends” and “Never again”. Organizers told ThinkProgress that “the group’s opposition to the Muslim ban is rooted in Jewish history.”
“We remember our history, and we remember that the borders of this country closed to us in 1924 with very catastrophic consequences during the Holocaust,” said Rabbi Jill Jacobs, the executive director of one of the groups organizing the demonstration.
“We know that some of the language that’s being used now to stop Muslims from coming in is the same language that was used to stop Jewish refugees from coming.”
