Today was May Day / immigration day, and across the nation, immigrants, advocates, labor leaders, faith groups, women’s groups, LGBT champions, environment activists, and others came together through sunshine and rain to make their opposition to Donald Trump’s mass deportation policy heard. You can see our May Day pictures below.
May Day has historically been a day for the immigrant community, and this year it held special significance after people power during Trump’s first 100 days in office resulted in a number of wins for advocates against the Administration. Led by organizations such as the Center for Community Change (CCC), the Fair Immigration Reform Movement (FIRM), United We Dream (UWD), UNITE HERE and thousands of others, protests were seen in Yakima, WA; Detroit, MI; Las Vegas, NV; Milwaukee, WI; Washington, DC; Indianapolis, IN; Jersey City, NJ; Miami, FL; New Orleans, LA; Cleveland, OH; Harrisburg, PA; multiple cities in Texas, California, and New York; and many more.
