Today, Dreamers, allies — and one inflatable Grinch — visited Sen. John Cornyn’s (R-TX) Austin office to demand that he not stand in the way of the Dream Act passing this year.
Sen. Cornyn has a long, hypocritical, and anti-immigrant history where he likes to say good things about immigrants and immigration reform, yet actively works to scuttle legislation at every opportunity. This year, he and Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-IA) put out a bill full of poison pills in a “response” to demands that he support the Dream Act. We’ve given his scam a name: the Cornyn Con.
Demonstrators today called on Cornyn to stop playing games with Dreamers’ lives — 124,000 DACA recipients live in Texas alone. To make their point, they used a blow-up Grinch, an art installation celebrating Texas’ Dreamers, and stories of how DACA has changed their lives.
