This morning, we wrote about the dozens of advocates who were arrested in an act of civil disobedience outside the White House yesterday, calling on President Obama to stop the separation of families. Advocates also still have their eye on Congress, where Speaker Boehner and his caucus have yet to take action on immigration reform legislation that addresses the 11 million.
That’s why activists with the Alliance for Citizenship, Organizing for Action, Mi Familia Vota, and Unidos Now joined forces in Florida last Saturday to protest a Boehner fundraiser in Sarasota. The National Republican Congressional Committee was holding their annual winter meeting there, and other House Republicans present included Reps. Darrell Issa (CA), Aaron Schock (IL), Tom Price (GA), Greg Walden (OR), Steve Southerland (FL), and Virginia Foxx (NC).
The action echoed a proclamation earlier this month where immigration advocates warned lawmakers to expect “relentless and constant confrontations” if they don’t yet support immigration reform. A similar Boehner fundraiser last month in Las Vegas for Rep. Joe Heck (R-NV) was similarly picketed by immigration reform supporters.
