Yesterday, David Damore, a senior analyst with leading polling firm Latino Decisions, joined radio host Michelangelo Signorile on SiriusXM Progress to discuss Donald Trump’s attacks on Alicia Machado and the impact it could have on Latino voters in the election.
Machado has spoken out about Trump’s racist and sexist insults dating back to her reign as Miss Universe, fat-shaming her as “Miss Piggy,” and insulting her heritage by calling her “Miss Housekeeping.” The abuse, according to Machado, led to years of eating disorders.
An unhinged Trump escalated his attacks on Machado earlier this morning, tweeting vile and unfounded accusations that have been met by universal condemnation — and silence from Republican leadership in Congress, including House Speaker Paul Ryan and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, both of whom support Donald Trump for President.
“It comes off as both sexist and racist,” Damore told Signorile about Trump’s initial comments. “You’re not only animating Latinos, but also women.”
