NBC is now on the receiving end a tsunami of negative reviews after choosing to go forward and keep Donald Trump on as host of last week’s “Saturday Night Live,” despite a massive national outcry from a multitude of Latino and immigrant rights advocates and organizations.
“The network, along with SNL creator Lorne Michaels, chose to ignore the voices of more than half a million Americans who called on them to rescind Trump’s invitation to host of SNL because we don’t think racism is funny,” said Juan Escalante, one of the lead organizers of the #RacismIsntFunny campaign.
Sure, SNL and NBC might have won when it comes to the ratings game. But, as the reviews come in, and the nation’s 55 million Latinos remain angry and gearing up for an election season, NBC is sure to be already wondering if it was worth taking on Trump’s bigoted baggage in the end.
