Thousands Attend Los Angeles Information Session for Executive Action

Executive action for immigrants is really coming — and the immigrant community is ready for relief.  This weekend, the Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights of Los Angeles (CHIRLA) held an information session for potential applicants — and thousands of families attended.  Check out this beautiful photo from the event:

The New York Times covered the event, and highlighted the political ramifications of this action that will help so many in the immigrant and Latino communities.  Across the country on the same weekend this event was happening, Sen. Ted Cruz was grandstanding in favor of mass deportations.  As advocates and immigrants were quoted in the NYT piece:

“Republicans have shown they are not on the side of the immigrant,” said Dany Santos, 35, an immigrant from Guatemala who came with a double stroller for his two American-born children, 3 and 4 years old. Still, he said he thought the program could have been better. “The news is fifty-fifty,” he said, “good for us but not good for so many people we know were left out” because they did not have children born in this country…

“All those children are going to be voters,” Ms. Salas said, “and those voters are going to remember who stood with their dad and their mom.”
