By Stalling Programs in Court Gov. Rick Scott and Attorney General Pam Bondi Are Denying the State Tax Revenue
As the Supreme Court prepares to hear the case over President Obama’s executive actions on immigration, evidence continues to grow that upholding the President’s orders is not just the right thing to do for millions of immigrant families, but will also have huge economic benefits for the country as a whole. According to a new report from the Institute on Taxation and Economic Policy, undocumented immigrants’ tax contributions would increase significantly under the Obama administration’s executive action.
These findings make clear the purely political nature of the anti-immigrant lawsuit challenging the President’s programs. Republican Governors and Attorneys General from 26 states have signed on a lawsuit that prevents their own states from benefiting from the millions in tax revenue that full implementation of the President’s immigration programs would bring. The partisan nature of this lawsuit has never been so apparent—not only are Republican leaders suing immigrant families that have lived and worked in their states for years, but they are so willing to politicize the immigration issue that they would rather deny millions in tax revenue than allow the President’s programs to move forward.

Rick Scott and Attorney General Bondi have signed onto denies relief to Florida families and keeps thousands living in immigration limbo. Given the ITEP report, it is clear that this obstruction comes from nothing other than pure partisanship. It is shameful that our leaders are willing to forfeit millions of dollars in tax revenue to score political points at the expense of immigrants who have made Florida their home. It is time for the Supreme Court to rule on this politically motivated lawsuit and provide Florida immigrants the relief they so desperately need.”
