Led by CREDO Action, MoveOn and Reform Immigration for America advocates delivered over 600,000 petitions to Speaker John Boehner today with a very clear message: We want a vote on a path to citizenship. The petitions were delivered to Boehner at his district office in West Chester, Ohio this morning.
The decision to hold a vote rests with Boehner. And, we have enough votes from Republicans and Democrats to pass immigration reform with a path to citizenship. As AV’s Executive Director Frank Sharry said today: “It’s up to Speaker Boehner and other Members of House leadership to decide which way this goes. If he wants to get it done, he’ll back champions who are committed to getting it done. No process, calendaring or partisan excuses will spare him the harsh judgment of history if he doesn’t.”
Other organizations involved in collecting signatures calling for the House vote were:AFL-CIO, AFSCME, Alliance for Citizenship, National Council of La Raza, America’s Voice, NEA, American Federation of Teachers, Reform Immigration for America, Campaign for Citizenship-PICO, SEIU, Center for Community Change, US Action and Communication Workers of America.
