Burr Vows Continued Support of Trump Despite Sexual Assault Revelations
Senator Richard Burr reaffirmed his endorsement of Donald Trump yesterday despite the utterly grotesque video that surfaced last Friday of the Republican nominee bragging about how he sexually assaulted women.
While initially stating that he needed a few days to see if Trump showed contrition, it is clear that Senator Burr believes Trump’s deflection about it being “locker room talk” was sufficient, and he is again willing to throw his full support behind Donald Trump.
The interview with Burr was released yesterday by American Bridge.
In addition to his verbal support, Senator Burr will also be joining Trump’s National Security Advisory Council and serving in a leadership role in the campaign. Burr’s new role was announced the same day the Billy Bush tapes were revealed.
“The release of the tape showing Donald Trump bragging about sexually assaulting women has created shock and horror across North Carolina and the country,” said Tim Eakins, Director of North Carolina’s Voice. “Yet again, Senator Burr sides with Trump’s anti-immigrant, xenophobic, and misogynistic views instead of standing up for the people of North Carolina. Sexual assault has no place in our society, and if Senator Burr is willing to travel this great state and praise Trump’s virtues, he has no business serving as our senator.”
