With Donald Trump’s appearance as host of Saturday Night Live just days away, Latino and immigration groups, along with their allies, have collected now 520,000 petition signatures (with a big help from Change.orgCREDO Action and MoveOn.org) telling Lorne Michaels and SNL that Donald Trump’s #RacismIsntFunny.

Today at 6pm ET, leaders from participating organizations will come together to deliver the petitions to NBC Studios at 30 Rockefeller Plaza and call on the network to drop Trump from SNL’s headline.

“There’s mounting evidence that Donald Trump’s racist demagoguery is resulting in real-world violence and physical and verbal intimidation,” said CREDO Deputy Political Director Mushed Zaheed. “It’s irresponsible and dangerous for NBC to provide Trump with a free national platform to bolster his racist and xenophobic campaign.”

Added Juan Escalante, America’s Voice Digital Campaigns Manager, “It is shameful for SNL and NBC to think that racism can be repackaged as comedy. Moreover, it is disappointing to see that Lorne Michaels and the executives at NBC are willing to prioritize their ratings over the dignity and respect of their viewers. On Wednesday, we will raise our voices and ensure that NBC and SNL understand that Trump’s attacks on Latinos and immigrants are not funny.”

Today’s petition delivery follows a growing campaign and chorus of voices calling on SNL to drop Trump.  On Monday, the CHC released a strongly worded statement directed at Lorne Michaels highlighting several recent instances where Trump supporters have beat or harassed Latinos after hearing his anti-immigrant and anti-Latino speeches.  A new video from Voto Latino Action Fund shows the true impact of Donald Trump’s words and captures many of the instances mentioned in the CHC’s full statement. Color Correct News, one of the new shows at Latino Rebels Network with anchor Rick Najera, created this parody interview with Trump. And the United Farm Workers also responded with stinging humor of their own releasing cartoons by artist Ignacio Gomez (see here).

The National Hispanic Leadership Agenda, a group representing 40 of the largest Latino organizations in the nation and the L.A.-based National Hispanic Media Coalition are also urging NBC to reconsider the Trump booking.

Alex Nogales, president of the NHMC, told LAWeekly he’s trying to get Lorne Michaels on the phone. “They told me he was not going to talk,” Nogales said.
