New report connects Stephen Miller’s embrace of white nationalist ideas to real immigration, refugee and asylum policies enacted and proposed by the Trump administration
A report released today by America’s Voice, “The Stephen Miller Emails: Once Far-Right White Nationalist Ideas Are Now U.S. Policies” underscores the connections between Stephen Miller’s embrace of white nationalist ideas and real immigration, refugee, and asylum policies enacted and proposed by the Trump administration.
The report, authored by America’s Voice’s Zachary Mueller, connects the trove of Stephen Miller’s emails unearthed and reported on by the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) that demonstrate Miller’s affinity for white nationalism to a host of specific policies driven by Miller and advanced by the Trump administration, including:
- Slashing refugee admissions
- Gutting asylum and separating families
- The Muslim ban
- A push to end Temporary Protected Status (TPS)
- Demonizing immigrants
- Xenophobia as an electoral strategy
As the report notes:
Newly leaked emails have recently proven what has been obvious for a long time: Stephen Miller, an adviser with unique influence in the White House, is a white nationalist, obsessed with xenophobic ideas and long on xenophobic ties. Unfortunately, this is not an abstract fact.
Stephen Miller’s ideology and associations have profound impact on millions of Americans’ lives. He has shaped devastating policies from the Muslim ban to zero tolerance family separations … Thanks to Miller, what were once far-right, white nationalist ideas are now U.S. policy.
