In a new Medium post, Lynn Tramonte, Director of Ohio’s Voice, reflects on the tumultuous first week in Trump’s America: “Trump’s first week in office has been a disaster. He lurched from issue to issue, trying to undo years of progress our country has made on health care access, the environment, and immigration with a stroke of a pen.”
Trump is transforming the Presidency into a Monarchy and signing edicts without consultation or awareness of their enduring effects.
The entire piece, entitled “Trump’s First Week Has Been a Disaster for America” is available online here and included below:
“Trump’s first week in office has been a disaster. He lurched from issue to issue, trying to undo years of progress our country has made on health care access, the environment, and immigration with a stroke of a pen.
He’s acting more like a king than a president. Trump signed sweeping edict after sweeping edict that would dramatically change the course of our country, with absolutely no consultation. He’s acting more like a monarch than the president of a democracy.
He claims he wants to represent the whole country, including the majority of Americans who did not vote for him, but that’s clearly just another lie. Instead, he’s proving to be just as extreme as he was during the campaign.
The result? Reckless chaos. Trump’s proposals are reckless and dangerous. They will result in chaos.
Just take the issue of immigration. He is moving forward with a Deportation Force, tripling the number of deportation agents and throwing out the current DHS priorities so that every undocumented immigrant — no matter her family ties, no matter his contributions — becomes a target.
He wants to cancel our commitment to protecting refugees in need of safety, and enact a de facto Muslim ban that will only give fuel to our enemies. He’s taking a wrecking ball to the Statue of Liberty and core American values.
Trump and his inner circle have put a gag order on federal agencies and are attacking the First Amendment. Senior level people are leaving after trying out the new Administration for just a few days.
The safety and security of our country is at risk with such a reckless, chaotic person in charge.
Inconvenient truths are not “alternate facts.” They are lies. How does Trump respond to facts he doesn’t like? Inconvenient truths, like his “low energy” inaugural crowd and the fact that he lost the popular vote, have proven again how thin-skinned he is. Instead of taking the high road, he and his staff resort to outright lies.
Trump is embarrassing himself, his Administration, and our country and he’s only been president for one week.
Another day, another conflict of interest. Trump’s de facto Muslim ban targets certain countries, but leaves out nations where he and his family do business. National security experts are decrying this policy because it fuels anti-American sentiment and won’t actually stop terrorists.
Americans are also outraged by Trump’s ongoing conflicts of interest. This one is simply the latest.
We know the courts are our backstop but the question is, how much damage will this Administration be able to do — to our country, security, health, families, and values — before the checks and balances kick in?”
