“Chaos and Corruption” – Vanessa Cárdenas on Tom Homan’s Open Corruption and White House Immigration Chaos

Washington, DC — This weekend offered a revealing snapshot of the Trump administration’s belief it is above the law and unaccountable – especially when it comes to their anti-immigrant agenda and pursuit of mass deportation.

As MSNBC first reported over the weekend, “In an undercover operation last year, the FBI recorded Tom Homan, now the White House border czar, accepting $50,000 in cash after indicating he could help the agents — who were posing as business executives — win government contracts in a second Trump administration … In recent weeks, Trump appointees officially closed the investigation.”

Meanwhile, the White House’s bungled rollout and announcement of their new H-1B policy announcement again underscored the chaos and lack of accountability inherent to this administration and all things immigration (read the Politico story, “White House tries to tamp down corporate panic for high-skill visa holders after last-minute overhaul”).

The following is a statement from Vanessa Cárdenas, Executive Director of America’s Voice:

“The fact that Tom Homan was caught on video taking a literal bag of cash would be a disqualifying act of corruption in any other administration. To this White House, it’s just business as usual, something to sweep under the rug and dismiss. After all, Homan is a loyal mouthpiece and supporter of mass deportation. They think they are above the law and unaccountable, especially on their immigration agenda.

The cruelty, chaos and corruption that define their anti-immigrant agenda comes at a tremendous cost to the American people, the rule of law and basic standards that should be sacrosanct in our democracy.”
