America’s Voice on J.D. Vance and Immigration

Washington, DC — Today, Donald Trump picked J.D. Vance as his vice presidential running mate. Below, are key and related resources from America’s Voice:

The following is a statement from Vanessa Cárdenas, Executive Director of America’s Voice, reacting to the choice of J.D. Vance as Donald Trump’s vice presidential nominee:

“Donald Trump’s choice of J.D. Vance is a signal that there will not be a substantial change in tone or trajectory from the Trump campaign after the shooting of this past weekend. Senator Vance had one of the most combative reactions to the violence, without any consideration of inflaming even more political violence. Vance’s reaction fits into his pattern from the last several years, as he has been a leading messenger of the dangerous white nationalist conspiracy rhetoric that inspired multiple deadly domestic terrorists in Pittsburgh, El Paso, Buffalo and elsewhere.

Vance also has been a leading endorser of Trump’s pledge of unsparing mass deportations, stating in June, for example, ‘We need to deport every single person who invaded our country illegally.’ The pick of Vance reveals the ongoing radicalization gripping the GOP as the one-time severe skeptic of Trump has turned into a sycophant willing to embrace the blood and soil nationalism, the dehumanizing of immigrants as conspiratorial villains, and treating the nation as if violence and authoritarianism are the only cure.”

Three Key Points – J.D. Vance and Immigration

  • For years, J.D. Vance has amplified the white nationalist “great replacement” conspiracy theory, echoing deadly domestic terrorists and describing non-white migrants as an invading force. See here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here and here for examples.
  • J.D. Vance supports an unsparing mass deportation agenda that seeks to rip apart American families, deport Dreamers, and create massive show-me-your-papers forces to fill detention camps.
  • Vance has falsely blamed immigrants for the opioid crisis despite his ties to a shadowy group that sought to cover up big pharma’s role in the opioid crisis.
