A new ad appearing today in Roll Call, a publication that covers and is read by Congress, warns Members of Congress against taking their cues on immigration from the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR). FAIR is hosting their annual lobby day and a “radio row” featuring far right anti-immigrant radio personalities on September 15 and 16.
FAIR has been designated a hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC). Reps. Brian Bilbray (R-CA) and Steve King (R-IA), as well as Senator Jeff Sessions (R-AL), are pictured in the ad along with FAIR founder John Tanton and CNN’s Lou Dobbs. Bilbray, King, and Sessions have a long history of collaboration with FAIR and like-minded organizations. Dobbs is a favorite media personality of FAIR, and is slated to speak at the organization’s “We the People” Immigration Reform Awards Reception on Tuesday, September 15.
The ad features a quote from Tanton that reads: “As Whites see their power and control over their lives declining, will they simply go quietly into the night? Or will there be an explosion?” It was paid for by America’s Voice Education Fund, Campaign for Community Change, Center for New Community, and the Service Employees International Union.
