As the U.S. Senate prepares to vote on Wednesday on a measure to revoke President Trump’s national emergency declaration, America’s Voice today launched a series of online ads to hold Senators accountable for funds diverted from military projects and families and other priorities to fund the President’s autographed vanity project, the border wall. Earlier this month, the President used his executive power to alter budget allocations made by Congress to defund $3.6 billion in military construction projects and divert some $155 million in funds away from FEMA.

Nationally, Republicans Senators will be targeted from Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Texas and Wisconsin.

According to Pili Tobar, Deputy Director of America’s Voice: “The American people are outraged that Donald Trump and his allies in the Congress are robbing the men and women of our military of vital services and robbing America of its national security in order to pay for Trump’s border wall. The wall – which Trump even took the time to autograph with his Sharpie – amounts to nothing more than a gigantic 2020 campaign billboard funded by taxpayer money previously dedicated to vital military projects, emergency preparedness and other priorities. The real hurt to our soldiers, their families, and our security is being justified by Trump’s fake national emergency declaration. Senators this week will be on-record supporting or opposing the President’s stunt and whether they put party or country first.

“We are sensing a lot of outrage among voters, especially in states where approved military projects like schools and critical infrastructure are being killed for the President’s border wall vanity project. For Senators who face voters in 2020, this is an important inflection point. Do they support their states and the military families who stand to lose schools and facilities, or do they stand with the President in maintaining the fiction that border wall spending constitutes a national emergency? We can’t match the President’s budget for advertising because we cannot use funds from the national treasury the way he does, but Facebook users in these states are going to have an opportunity to view what their Senators are doing and what they are voting on this week, and they’ll have an opportunity to call Senate offices directly to voice their opinions.”
