After four years of enduring countless cruelties from Donald Trump and Stephen Miller’s campaign against immigrants, the recent news of Biden’s plan to nominate Alejandro Mayorkas as Secretary of DHS was a welcomed choice by many immigration advocates.
An architect of the popular and successful DACA program, the Cuban-born son of a Holocaust survivor, and a refugee himself, Mayorkas is an inspired choice. He’s the right person to undo Trump’s cruelties, advance fair and humane policies, and deliver on the bold change the American people strongly support.

Alejandro Mayorkas, the son of Cuban refugees, has been nominated by President-Elect Biden to serve as Secretary of DHS. He will be the first Latino and immigrant to serve in that position. He is brilliant, thoughtful and kind.

Mayorkas has been the front runner for DHS mainly because, sources say, the incoming administration wants someone with immigration experience (rather than legal, cyber, intel, management, etc) due to the large amount of work to be done in untangling Trump’s immigration legacy.
