Rep. Luis Gutierrez, Advocates Protest Immigration Crackdown at Chicago ICE Office

Rep. Luis Gutierrez (D-IL), immigration reform advocates, and clergy members protested for five hours after a meeting with Chicago ICE yesterday, briefly being placed in handcuffs before being let go without citation.

Rep. Gutierrez and the advocates were protesting Donald Trump’s immigration executive orders, sprawling ICE raids, and the case of Francisca Lina — an immigrant who has been here for decades and has four children who are US citizens. She is married to a US citizen but is currently under a deportation order. Rep. Gutierrez has said that the case should be a low priority for ICE agents and illustrates a broken immigration system.
