The lawsuit filed by the federal government (on behalf of the Departments of Justice, Homeland Security and State) against Arizona and SB 1070 dominates the headlines today in the Spanish-language media.
The suit. The lawsuit’s central claim is that Arizona’s law usurps federal authority to establish and enforce immigration policy. The government further requests that a federal court issue an injunction to keep the law from going into effect on July 29th. EFE and AFP have more on the story. BBC Mundo explores the effects the lawsuit could have on other legal action already in the works against SB 1070.
AOL Latino posts video from an America’s Voice en Español interview with Executive Director Frank Sharry. Sharry also offered his perspective on the federal government’s lawsuit on national newscasts from Univisión, Telemundo and CNN en Español.
