PRESS CALL: Jessica Colotl, DREAMer Whose DACA was Revoked Arbitrarily by Trump Administration, Joins Rep. Gutiérrez, Legal and Immigration Experts to Discuss Her Story and DACA Under Trump

Washington, DC – Tomorrow, June 7 at 1pm EST, Jessica Colotl, a leader in the fight for the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program who currently faces deportation, will join Representative Luis V. Gutiérrez (D-IL), legal experts and immigration advocates to discuss the fight to restore her DACA status, which the Trump administration arbitrarily and suddenly revoked despite no change in her circumstances. The call will take place a day before a hearing on Jessica’s case in Atlanta, Georgia.

The ACLU, ACLU of Georgia, and Kuck Immigration Partners are taking legal action against the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s decision to revoke Jessica’s DACA status. Jessica, who came to the U.S. when she was 11, has been previously granted protection under DACA twice.

Jessica is not the first DACA-recipient targeted by President Trump – his previous targets include Daniel, a California father, and Daniela, an activist, akin to Jessica, in Louisiana. Post-inauguration Trump repeatedly promised to protect childhood arrivals, but, as with his other commitments, this one appears to be a falsehood.

WHO:

  • Representative Luis V. Gutiérrez (D-IL)
  • Jessica Colotl, activist and DREAMer whose DACA status was arbitrarily revoked by Trump administration
  • Michael Tan, staff attorney, ACLU Immigrants’ Rights Project
  • Greisa Martinez Rosas, Advocacy Director and DACA-recipient, United We Dream
  • Lorella Praeli, Director of Immigration Policy and Campaigns, ACLU (Moderator)
  • Additional Speakers TBA
