Yesterday, advocates with United Farm Workers, Church World Service, and others called on Congress to pass the Dream Act during events in Washington, DC and California celebrating the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe.
The Lady of Guadalupe is celebrated as an icon of protection and refuge, and the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe was declared as time of unity with Dreamers by the US Conference of Catholic Bishops.
In Washington, the Feast was marked by a rally on Capitol Hill, while in Delano, California, advocates held a procession and mass honoring the accomplishments, hopes, fears and needs of all families who have come to the US seeking a better life.
The UFW Foundation also handed out 122 red roses to community members, each representing the life of an undocumented young person who is losing his or her DACA protection every day.
