Looks like Kentucky’s Alison Grimes has the right idea.
In a new ad, Grimes, the Democratic Senate candidate challenging Mitch McConnell, is firing back against a Republican hypocrisy which Steve Benen highlighted here and which Glenn Kessler of the Washington Post called “bizarre.” See, a pro-McConnell super PAC, the Kentucky Opportunity Coalition, recently released an ad against Grimes accusing her of supporting immigration reform and calling her a “proud supporter of Obama’s amnesty plan.” The problem is that the plan in question — Senate bill S. 744, passed last summer — was supported by 14 Senate Republicans, including John McCain (R-AZ), Lindsey Graham (R-SC), and potential presidential candidate Marco Rubio (R-FL). [Furthermore, no less than Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-IA), no friend to immigrants, admitted that the bill was not “amnesty.”]
In her new ad, Grimes highlights the GOP support for the Senate bill and the Republican hypocrisy behind attacking her for something members of their own party supported. Watch Grimes’ ad below:
