Senate Republicans Chose Loyalty to Trump Over Protecting American Communities; Hand Trump, Miller Another Blank Check to Fund Dangerous Mass Deportation Agenda

Washington, DC – After a recess delay, Senate Republicans early Friday morning passed

a reconciliation package that would provide roughly $72 billion in new funding for ICE and CBP through fiscal year 2029. The bill also includes language that will remove the necessary oversight and restrictions on immigration enforcement agencies to ensure the safety of individuals in custody.

If enacted, this legislation would dramatically expand Donald Trump and Stephen Miller’s mass deportation agenda, directing tens of billions of taxpayer dollars towards anti-immigration enforcement without the necessary accountability guardrails in place even as families across the country continue to face rising costs and economic uncertainty.

According to Vanessa Cárdenas, Executive Director of America’s Voice:

“Rather than directing $72 billion in taxpayer dollars toward improving the lives of hardworking Americans, the Republicans in the Senate just gave ICE another blank check. The Senate just diverted even more resources to pad the pockets of ICE and CBP and cause unnecessary harm and suffering for families across the nation.

Senate Republicans are choosing loyalty to Trump/Miller over protecting American communities and – contrary to what most Americans are demanding – further undermining oversight and accountability measures for ICE/CBP agents. This is a shameful vote, and House Republicans would be wise to remember that Americans want reform, accountability and a system that reflects our values – not billions more for an enforcement machine operating in the shadows.”
