New Economic Analysis: Trump’s Mass Deportation Agenda is Already Damaging the U.S. Economy

A new economic analysis released today by Economic Insights and Research Consulting, reveals the predictable economic damage already underway from Donald Trump and Stephen Miller’s mass deportation agenda. While working families struggle with rising costs, Trump targets their ability to keep food on their tables, roofs over their heads, and our economy functioning.

“Trump’s mass deportation assault disrupts our economy and drives up prices on groceries and housing for all Americans—the inevitable result economists have long predicted,” said Vanessa Cárdenas, Executive Director of America’s Voice. “From farm fields in California to construction sites in the Northeast, we’re witnessing the real-world consequences of targeting the people who power our economy. This isn’t just bad immigration policy – it’s economic sabotage that hurts working families and damages entire communities.”

The new analysis, “Warning Signs of the Economic Harms from Deportations,” shows that economic damage is already measurable across industries that keep America running:

Agriculture:

  • Fresh vegetable prices rising at over 8% annual rate and meat prices up over 7% annually as Trump’s deportation raids target farmworkers.
  • Agricultural employment plummeted 6.5% from March to July 2025, reversing two years of growth. Immigration raids plague major growing areas, with California facing billions in production losses as crops go unharvested.

Construction:

  • Building permits dropped 17% in the Northeast and fell across immigrant-dependent regions, while rising 8% in the Midwest—worsening the housing crisis for working families.
  • Construction employment declined in the 10 states with the highest immigrant concentrations, while other states saw growth.

Leisure/Hospitality:

  • Food service employment grew only 0.2% in high-immigrant states compared to 1.5% in other states, forcing neighborhood restaurants and local businesses to limit hours or close their doors.
  • Restaurant prices are rising at a 5.3% annual rate as Trump’s deportation raids target farmworkers.

Overall U.S. Labor Supply:

  • 1.2 million foreign-born workers lost from the U.S. labor force since January 2025, contributing to the disappointing national jobs numbers making headlines and undermining economic growth for everyone.

The data tells a clear story: Trump’s deportation agenda harms American families while damaging our economy. Read the full analysis here or watch today’s press event featuring economists, workers, and industry voices discussing the findings here.
