AMERICA’S VOICE REFLECTS ON 100 DAYS: CHAOS, CRUELTY AND CRISIS
America’s Voice Executive Director Vanessa Cárdenas said that “cruel, costly, and chaotic” best describes the first 100 days of the second Trump administration. “From abducting American children to undermining the rule of law to tanking our economy, the lengths this Administration will go to demonize immigrants have no limits.” However, recent polls have shown a sharp rebuke of his actions, with a growing majority of Americans disapproving of Trump on immigration and beyond. Heading into the 100 days mark, AV also assembled content expanding on polling and costs of Americans, among a number of items. Read more here.
NO ONE IS SAFE: AMERICAN CHILD WITH CANCER EXPELLED FROM U.S.
The administration disappeared three U.S. citizen kids and their families last week – including a four-year-old child with cancer. Advocates revealed that the child was removed “without medication or the ability to consult with their treating physicians–despite ICE being notified in advance of the child’s urgent medical needs.” These actions from the administration embody the cruelty, chaotic, and harmful nature of its first 100 Days, as Cárdenas said. “Let this sink in: our government is deporting American kids, including kids with cancer, and is now trying to defend and excuse their choices on national television.” Read more here.
THIS IS WHAT MASS DEPORTATION LOOKS LIKE
In ongoing installments of “This is What Mass Deportation Looks Like,” we continue to highlight the administration’s efforts to turbocharge deportations at risk to all Americans. Children in particular have been harmed by Trump’s anti-immigrant obsessions. In addition to the horrific expulsion of the three American children last week, a breastfeeding infant is without her mom after the woman was deported to Cuba, leaving the child so traumatized that she was hospitalized. “Americans are recoiling in horror, knowing we’re better than this cruelty and chaos,” Cárdenas said. 100 DAYS FEELS LIKE 100 YEARS
In her weekly column, America’s Voice consultant Maribel Hastings writes that the first 100 days of the Trump administration have felt like 100 years. “Trump is attempting to govern by decree,” noting he seeks to “overwhelm those impacted and the public, to provoke inaction.” While some orders have dismantled parts of the federal government, others have been blocked by the courts. Unfortunately, it’s only a taste of what’s to come. “Resist continues to be the call.” Her column was also published in outlets including La Opinión, El Periódico USA, and La Tribuna Hispana. AN ATTACK ON ONE IS AN ATTACK ON ALL
The ongoing fight to return Maryland dad Kilmar Abrego García back home isn’t just about one man, it’s about all Americans, say Congressional members who have been seeking his release. So far only Maryland Sen. Chris Van Hollen has been able to meet with the Maryland dad. He framed this fight as a fight for the freedoms of all. “My mission and my purpose is to make sure that we uphold the rule of law,” he said, “because if we take it away from him, we do jeopardize it for everybody else.” Read more here.

YOU DON’T WANT TO MISS THIS
Workers, students, families, unions and allies have been rallying all week for May 1, International Workers Day, to celebrate the achievements of the labor movement and fight for a future that’s fairer and more just for all workers, millions of whom are immigrants and are essential to the economy. The majority of the nation’s farmworkers, for example, are immigrants. Many lack legal immigration status. Without their labor, we don’t eat. With May Day actions ongoing through the weekend in some cities, you too can show up for workers. Click here to find an event near you.
