Washington, DC — Today, at a press conference hosted by the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, Members of Congress and advocates condemned the Department of Homeland Security’s targeting and removal of DACA recipients. America’s Voice was represented by Yuna Oh, Research Associate, and a former DACA recipient.

The following is a statement from Yuna Oh, America’s Voice Research Associate and a former DACA recipient:

“As a former DACA recipient, immigrating to this country at the age of 6, I’m scared for my peers who are scared of being deported from their home country. I feel for them, and I relate to them. The feeling of being ousted from the only country they know, and love is one I felt during Trump’s first presidential term, and his second term is only worse.

We have to protect Dreamers. They are Americans, just without papers that acknowledge as much. DACA recipients are being unlawfully deported, other Dreamers are being denied access to DACA, and families and schools and classrooms and businesses are uncertain about the future of the DACAmented Dreamers they rely on.

All of it makes the case for Congress finally doing what the American people have been strongly supporting for two decades – a legislative solution that officially recognizes Dreamers as the Americans they already are.”
