CNN Executives Endanger the Network’s Journalistic Integrity by Continuing to Protect their Controversial Prime Time Anchor

Today CNN announced their refusal to broadcast an ad produced by America’s Voice and Media Matters for America calling on CNN to drop Lou Dobbs.   The ad, which can be seen here, was to be aired during the network’s upcoming 4 hour special – Latino in America – and is funded by online donations from Americans fed up with CNN’s coddling of a primetime anchor notorious for demonizing immigrants and distorting the immigration debate.

According to Frank Sharry, Executive Director of America’s Voice, “CNN’s decision to give 4 hours to the challenges faced by Latinos in America is no match for the 260 primetime hours the network gives to Lou Dobbs each year to practice his dog whistle demagoguery.  Keeping little guys like us from standing up to the Dobbs the bully does not change this fact.  Today’s decision by CNN to refuse to air an ad criticizing their prime time anchor further erodes CNN’s claim to be ‘the most trusted name in news.’”

America’s Voice and Media Matters for America plan to air the ad on a competing network in the next week.
