Washington, DC — Ahead of key Trump nominee confirmation hearings this week, America’s Voice has assembled an array of backgrounders on some of the key nominees tasked with executing Donald Trump’s mass deportation vision. The full array of backgrounders are available online at the America’s Voice website here: Nominee Backgrounders: Agents of Mass Deportation.
According to Vanessa Cárdenas, Executive Director of America’s Voice: “Tragically for our nation, extremism and inexperience are the defining characteristics of the Trump administration’s nominations. On the key positions that will oversee immigration, these nominees seem committed to a mass deportation agenda that will inflict harm on our communities and wreck the economy for working people. They seem ready to support and implement the worst impulses of the incoming administration, family separation, gutting legal immigration, and ineffectual stunts tailored for right-wing headlines instead of solutions and policies to support a functional immigration system.”
See below for specific backgrounders by nominee and appointee:
- Who is DHS Secretary Nominee Kristi Noem?: “Donald Trump’s mass deportation team has been taking shape, and it is alarming, as expected. Trump has announced that he has selected South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem as his nominee for secretary of Homeland Security, joining noted white nationalist Stephen Miller and former acting ICE director Thomas Homan to carry out the incoming administration’s “bloody” mass deportation agenda.”
- Who is U.S. Attorney General Nominee Pam Bondi?: “Donald Trump selected former Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi as his latest nominee for U.S. Attorney General, following his disastrous pick of disgraced former Congressman Matt Gaetz for the position.”
- Who is Agriculture Secretary Nominee Brooke Rollins?: “Donald Trump has nominated America First Policy Institute (AFPI) founder and former Trump administration official Brooke Rollins as his pick to lead the U.S. Department of Agriculture, which oversees our nation’s food and farm supply, nutritional programs like the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), and houses the U.S. Forest Service. But like other Trump nominees across other top federal agencies, Rollins has been nominated to oversee a vast department despite no applicable experience.”
- Who is Border Czar Thomas Homan?: “Donald Trump has announced that Thomas Homan, a Project 2025 contributor and former acting ICE director under his first administration, will be returning to his second term as a “border czar” to carry out the ”bloody” mass deportation agenda that was the signature promise of his 2024 presidential campaign and seeks to send the military into our neighborhoods to round up millions of long-settled undocumented immigrants and likely some U.S. citizens.”
- Who is CBP Commissioner Nominee Rodney Scott? – America’s Voice: “Donald Trump nominated former Border Patrol Chief Rodney Scott for the new commissioner of the parent agency Customs and Border Protection (CBP), seeking the return of one of the most ardent defenders of the border policies from his first administration.”
