Washington, DC – Dolores Huerta, the labor and civil rights leader who co-founded what became the United Farm Workers, died today at her home in Bakersfield, California.

Vanessa Cárdenas, Executive Director of America’s Voice, issued the following statement:

“We at America’s Voice are heartbroken by the loss of the formidable Dolores Huerta. She was a singular servant leader who showed up when we needed her most. Her death leaves a tremendous void for those of us who looked to her example, her courage, and her joy for life. Our condolences go to her family, to the UFW, and to our broader Latino community. We lost a star and a champion, but her legacy calls us to recommit to the ideals she fought for throughout her entire life. Rest in power, Dolores. ¡Sí, se puede!”
