‘Qué Pasa’ in Immigration: Waiting for the DoJ; Protesting the NGA; McCain’s Border Tour?

As the Spanish-language press waits for the Department of Justice to jump into the legal battle over Arizona law SB 1070 and continues to call for comprehensive reform, Arizona Senator John McCain wants to show President Obama the border — and the state’s governor, Jan Brewer, will encounter protesters at this week’s National Governors’ Association in Boston.

Waiting for the DoJ. The newspaper La Opinión (Los Angeles) and websites AOL Latino and LatinoCalifornia.com publish the column “Challenging SB 1070,” by Maribel Hastings of America’s Voice. The column explains why the federal government should intervene in Arizona. Meanwhile, various outlets, including Univision.com, report that a federal judge in Phoenix has already set dates—July 15th and 22nd—to hear arguments for and against the law. The law is slated to go into effect on July 29th.
