“GOP And Trump, Party Of Hate”: Over 1,000 New Yorkers And Allies Protest Trump Appearances

As estimated 1,000 New Yorkers protested Donald Trump’s appearance at a New York State Republican gala in downtown Manhattan yesterday.

One of the signs outside the Grand Hyatt New York read “No Trump, no racist fear — immigrants are welcome here.”

Other activists chanted “Stand up, fight back” and “Donald Trump, KKK, racist, sexist, antigay.” According to one report, Trump was hung in effigy to cries of “How do you spell racist? T-R-U-M-P.”

The protest outside the Grand Hyatt New York was held as others demonstrated outside a Republican fundraiser in Long Island.

The event — a fundraiser for the Suffolk County Republican Party that featured a speech from Trump — was held feet from where an immigrant was brutally murdered in a hate crime in 2008 (AV’s David Torres writes on the incident in a new Spanish-language column here).
