Pressure Builds Against Miami-Dade Mayor’s Decision to Support Trump Deportation Force

Things have gone from bad to worse for Republican Mayor of Miami-Dade, Carlos Gimenez, who decided to support Donald Trump’s Deportation Force over the immigrant families across the County he was elected to represent.

Not only has the County Commission of Miami-Dade called a meeting to discuss the immigration protections Republican Carlos Gimenez struck down, after advocates and press called on the Mayor to revert his stance on the issue, but local local governments and Municipal Mayors are also blasting Gimenez decision to toss immigrants under Trump’s deportation bus.

The Mayors of  the Cities of Hialeah and Miami, note the City of Miami is a municipality within Miami-Dade County, have spoken against Mayor Gimenez actions on immigration:

As reported by el Diario las Americas in Spanish, Hialeah Mayor Carlos Hernández:

En el marco de las celebraciones llevadas a cabo por el aniversario número 164 del natalicio de José Martí, el alcalde de Hialeah Carlos Hernández se mostró en total desacuerdo con la decisión de Carlos Giménez, alcalde de Miami-Dade

And, as reported by the Miami Herald, in regards to comments from the past and current Mayors of the City of Miami:

The current and former mayors of the city of Miami — a Republican and a Democrat, respectively — publicly chided Miami-Dade Mayor Carlos Gimenez for directing county jails to comply with federal immigration detention requests following President Donald Trump’s crackdown on “sanctuary” jurisdictions for immigrants in the country illegally.

Earlier this week, the City of Miami Beach unanimously passed a resolution urging Mayor Gimenez and Miami-Dade County to reinstate protections for immigrants – a move that Republican Carlos Gimenez seems completely unaware about, after labeling a Radio Caracol1260 AM caller a “liar” for spreading “misinformation” about the resolution.

Mayor Gimenez may think that cozying up to and acting like Donald Trump may be a sound move for his political career, but the truth is undeniable that the community he claims to represents will not stand idly by as Trump’s Deportation Force tears apart immigrant families.

Perhaps Mayor Gimenez could learn a thing about welcoming and protecting immigrants from his neighbors to the north, Broward County.
