“Make Toledo Great Again, Please Leave”: Hundreds Wall Off Trump’s Hate In Ohio

Hundreds of protesters representing a coalition of diversity — including immigration advocates, members of Black Lives Matter, Muslim-Americans, and women’s rights advocates — trumped Donald Trump’s hatred in Toledo, Ohio yesterday.

Waving signs reading “Toledo Trumps Hate,” “Make Toledo Great Again, Please Leave,” and “End Racism,” the activists flooded the area around the perimeter of the Huntington Center, where the Republican Presidential nominee was holding a campaign rally.

Inside, chants of “Build the wall!” and “Lock her up!” — a reference the Democratic nominee for President, Hillary Clinton — reverberated.

“I’m here because I stand against Donald Trump,” one protester told the Toledo Blade. “His stance against women and people with special needs is sickening. All people are created equal.”

“We’re all here today because it’s time to hold Donald Trump accountable for wanting to let Ohio’s auto industry go under and let the hard-working men and women of our community go down with it,” said Joshua Hughes, chair of the Lucas County Democratic Party.

“Donald Trump and Mike Pence claim to put American workers first. But the record shows what an utter disaster they would be for Ohio’s working families.”

At the Republican National Convention in Cleveland last week, hundreds more locked arm-in-arm in a human “wall” outside the Quickens Loan Arena.

“We’re here because we’re gonna give Trump what he wants — his wall,” said one of the activists in a must-watch video from the New York Times. “But it’s not gonna be the wall on the border, it’s gonna be here. The wall against his hate.”
