America’s Voice applauds the Obama Administration for granting Temporary Protected Status to Haitian immigrants in the U.S. It is a welcome and timely move that reinforces American values and humanitarianism.
“Deporting some 30,000 Haitian immigrants to Haiti at time when that country is reeling from a devastating earthquake would have only compounded the crisis and made it impossible for the Haitian government to absorb these immigrants, much less help them get settled,” said Frank Sharry, Executive Director of America’s Voice. “With TPS these immigrants will be able to live and work here legally and send money to help affected loved ones back home.
“President Obama deserves praise for granting the TPS, as do the bipartisan group of members of Congress who publicly and vocally urged him to do so.”
