MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Md. – TODAY, the Montgomery County Council votes on a resolution to urge Congress to protect DACA and TPS recipients.

The resolution says the state of Maryland would lose more than $1 billion per year should Temporary Protected Status end for El Salvador.

From Local DVM:

Tuesday, the Montgomery County Council will vote on a resolution, to urge lawmakers to protect DACA and TPS recipients.

Officials say Maryland is home to more than 9,700 DACA recipients whose status will end in March. Council members say they want to protect the recipients. Should the program end, it will cause Maryland to lose more than $500 million a year.

That number is even larger should Temporary Protected Status end for El Salvador. The resolution says the state would lose more than $1 billion a year.

“I think it’s important at times like these for the community to take a stand and that’s what we’re trying to do with this resolution,” said Montgomery County Council President Hans Riemer.

The second largest number of TPS recipients live in Maryland, according to the resolution. Nationwide, there are more than 325,000 TPS holders.
