Meet the Republicans Who Want to Impeach Obama Over Immigration

Share This:

Rep. Joe Barton (R-FL) made headlines yesterday when he became the latest Republican to suggest that Obama could be impeached if he takes executive action on immigration.

Talk of impeachment isn’t new, of course: some Republicans have been anxious to impeach Obama for years, over issues ranging from Obamacare to Benghazi to gun control and other topics.  Below is a running list of Republican members of Congress who specifically want to kick Obama out of office over immigration, or a possible executive announcement on immigration:

Also notable is Sarah Palin, who drew criticism when she called for Obama’s impeachment by (bafflingly) saying that “his unsecured border crisis is the last straw that makes the battered wife say ‘no mas.'”

Two “maybes” include Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) and Rep. Lamar Smith (R-TX), the former of whom said that “any impeachment would have to be tried in the United States Senate, so my responsibility would be to render judgment.”

One surprise “no” vote?  Anti-immigrant extremist Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-AL), who said that Congress has “plenty of tools” to use against Obama if he does act on immigration (including, apparently, trying to shut down the government).
