The Long Island Immigrant Students Association is the latest initiative of DREAM Act activists in the New York area.

The U.S. birth rate has hit a record low, falling for the second year since its peak in 2007, according to the National Bureau of Health Statistics. Demographers mostly blame the economy for the drop, as recession-hit families have been more cautious about having children and fewer immigrants have been coming.
