DREAMers, Advocates, Families Rally TODAY for Immigration Reform

Hundreds of DREAMers, immigration reform advocates, and families are gathering on Capitol Hill today–on the day House Republicans are set to hold a closed-door meeting to discuss what’s next for them on immigration reform–to push members of Congress to pass immigration reform that includes a path to citizenship.  There are at least 3 events happening today.  Tune in here to keep updated with tweets and livestream!


10:00 am – 12:00 pm, Aspirational Citizenship Ceremony, Upper Senate Park

Nearly 500 DREAMers and parents will participate in a solemn and aspirational citizenship ceremony, sending a clear signal to the House of Representatives’ GOP leadership as they go into their meeting that afternoon to discuss immigration reform with their caucus. United We Dream will be reminding them what’s at stake and what DREAMers are demanding.   DREAMers will be attending from Florida, Texas, New York, Oklahoma, California, North Carolina, Tennessee, Alabama, New Jersey, Virginia, Maryland, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Arizona, New Mexico, Wisconsin, Kentucky, Utah, Colorado, Washington, and Georgia and visuals will include certificate distribution, group pledges, and more.

12:00 pm – 1:30 pm, Care Package Delivery, House Office Buildings

A group of volunteers will hand deliver care packages to all Members of the House Republican Caucus in preparation for the caucus meeting with reminder materials about the manner in which the their actions on immigration reform can make or break the future of the Party.

2:30 pm – 4:00 pm, Large Rally, Corner of 1ST and Independence Streets SE, Washington, D.C.

As House Republican leaders meet to decide their approach to immigration reform, hundreds of immigrants and their families will rally outside of the U.S. Capitol to remind the group that a majority of Americans support common sense immigration reform with a path to citizenship and expect Congress to find a solution.  Expecting approximately 1000 people for event sponsored by CASA in Action and SEIU 32BJ, and supported by the AFL-CIO, the Alliance for Citizenship, Communications Workers of America, the Fair Immigration Reform Movement of the Center for Community Change, the Laborers International Union (LiUNA), SEIU International and Local 1199, the UAW, and more.
