Ohio Republican Members of Congress, 2 Democrats Voted for More Corruption – Not More Accountability – At Customs and Border Protection

Yesterday, the House of Representatives passed H.R. 2213, a bill that would allow President Trump to lower the hiring standards for Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agents by eliminating a polygraph test for certain applicants.

Investigative reporter Andrew Becker and others have foundnumerous examples where the polygraph helped weed out criminals, pedophiles, and other corrupt individuals from the Customs and Border Protection applicant pool.

Irresponsibly, Democratic Reps. Marcia Fudge and Joyce Beatty joined every Ohio Republican in voting in support of the bill.  Only Reps. Tim Ryan and Marcy Kaptur had the foresight to vote no.

Said Lynn Tramonte, Director of Ohio’s Voice:

Despite rhetoric that says otherwise, the Trump Administration is carrying out mass deportation of all undocumented immigrants.  Republicans in Congress are supporting the Administration in every way possible, despite the fact that this means breaking up Ohio families and unleashing unprofessional agents on our Ohio communities.

Democrats who claim to be part of the ‘Resistance’ against Trump are not ‘walking the walk’ when they vote to support his radical agenda.  Yesterday, Reps. Fudge and Beatty joined Ohio Republican Members of Congress in saying ‘aye’ to more corruption – not more accountability – within U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

This is an agency already rife with corruption and abuse.  We are outraged at this level of betrayal from our so-called leaders.  We need professional, highly-vetted law enforcement agents that are held to strict standards, not practices to speed up the hiring of potentially corrupt or dangerous agents.
