FALLS CHURCH, VA — Yesterday, Tom Steyer, President of NextGen America, announce da newly formed partnership with CASA in Action, Center for Community Change Action, and America’s Voice to elevate immigration as a voting issue in this November’s election. The $1 million dollar investment will include canvassing and GOTV efforts to ensure pro-immigrant and Latino voters turn out on November 7.

As Tom Steyer, President of NextGen America, said:

In November, Virginia has an opportunity to tell the President that his hateful, anti-immigrant agenda is fundamentally at odds with American values and our shared history. Immigration is an issue of human justice, and as Americans, we all must stand united in the fight for equality and respect for the immigrant community. NextGen America is proud to launch this campaign with our incredible partners to engage and mobilize Virginia voters who support our immigrant neighbors, and to elect leaders who will serve, not scapegoat, this community.

Said Gustavo Torres, President of CASA in Action:

Ahead of the November 7 election, we are fearlessly mobilizing thousands of voters to elect leaders who embrace the true spirit of unity and equality of the Commonwealth. Our members are the face of Virginia and they are here to stay and protect the values that founded the United States.

Said Grecia Lima, Deputy National Political Director of Center for Community Change Action:

The Center for Community Change Action is thrilled to join NextGen America, America’s Voice and CASA in Action in this effort to send a loud a clear message in Virginia and throughout the nation: the GOP embrace of white nationalism has no future in America.  Whether we are talking about Charlottesville, the GOP war on DACA and immigrants or the attempt to take health coverage away from millions of Americans – voters are standing together to say yes to a more inclusive America.

Said Julio Lainez, Virginia State Director of America’s Voice:

When Donald Trump began his campaign two years ago, he used the spotlight to degrade, dehumanize, and lie about our community. Now others are following President Trump’s lead, starting with Ed Gillespie who used to be moderate on immigration and is now catering to the the anti-immigrant “Corey Stewart” wing of the GOP. As our state continues to diversify, we need candidates like Ralph Northam who believes our strength lies precisely in our diversity. House of Delegates candidates Kathy Tran and Elizabeth Guzman demonstrate that. For this reason America’s Voice is proud to be part of this partnership with NextGen America, CASA in Action, and Center for Community Change Action to mobilize and turn out Latino and immigrant voters in our great state, the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Today’s announcement comes on the heels of NextGen America’s commitment to spend $2 million to help elect Ralph Northam and Virginia Democrats up and down the ballot.
