Unfortunately, There’s No Good Immigration News for Married, Bi-National Same-Sex Couples

Department of Homeland SecurityIn expected DHS-like fashion, the Bureau for Citizenship and Immigration Services has resumed rejecting green card applications filed by bi-national same-sex couples.

Earlier this week, immigration and LGBT advocates alike were celebrating the news that, in light of the recent announcement that the Obama administration would not be defending the Defense Of Marriage Act, USCIS was not going to deny green-card applications filed by bi-national same-sex couples.

We should have known better. By Tuesday, it was back to “business as usual.” Unfortunately, that business involves deportations and splitting families apart.

The Department of Homeland Security is once again showing us that if it sounds too good to be true, then it most likely is.
