The Spanish-language media highlights a bipartisan appeal to stop deporting DREAM Act students, while keeping attention on Arizona’s criminalization bill and the shifting prospects for comprehensive immigration reform in Congress.

Stop deporting DREAMers. Senators Richard Durbin (D-IL) and Richard Lugar (R-IN) released a letter yesterday asking Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano to suspend the deportation of undocumented students who would qualify for legal status under the DREAM Act. EFE and Notimex have more on the story.

SB 1070. Arizona Senate Bill 1070, which would criminalize undocumented immigrants, continues to attract the attention of the Spanish-language press. Notimex covers civil-rights groups’ request that Secretary Napolitano intervene against the bill, while  Vivelo Hoy, El Diario La Estrella and Telemundo cover calls for Governor Jan Brewer to veto the bill. La Opinión (Los Angeles) and EFE cover a press conference of police chiefs concerned that SB 1070 would have negative effects on law enforcement.
