‘Qué Pasa’ in Immigration: Retirements, Promises & Challenges; March 21 Demonstrations

Today’s top story in the Spanish-language press is Congressman Lincoln Diaz-Balart’s (R-FL) announcement that he intends to retire from the House of Representatives when his current term expires in 2011. Diaz-Balart told Univision News that he plans to work toward comprehensive immigration reform during his remaining time in Congress, and urged the Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi, to bring a single immigration reform bill to the floor rather than a series of smaller pieces of legislation. The Nuevo Herald (Miami) reports that the Congressman has fought to legalize undocumented students.
