As grassroots groups continue to mount protests for immigration reform and in support of those who have been detained already in civil-disobedience actions, Mexican President Felipe Calderón’s White House visit presents a diplomatic opportunity for the White House to discuss reform.

Detained students. The Spanish-language media continues to monitor the situation of the students who were detained after being arrested in Senator John McCain’s (R-AZ) offices earlier in the week during an act of civil disobedience to call for passage of the DREAM Act. Reports indicate that three of the students arrested, who are undocumented, are now in deportation proceedings. EFE and Hoy (Chicago) have more on the story, and El Diario-La Prensa (New York) covers a protest in solidarity with the students in front of the New York office of Senator Charles Schumer (D-NY).
